Rain is wet because it is raining… Church is holy because Christ is holy… holiness of the Church is simply the holiness of Christ. It is his church, made by him as the bearer of holiness to men. Every member, in contact with him, has available to him / her a fount of holiness; there is no limit save our own will to receive what he has to give. For the church there is no growth and, of course, no diminishing. If everyone of her members were in a state of grace at a given moment, the church’s holiness would be no greater, if we were all in mortal sin together, it would be no less. In other words the holiness of the church is not the sum total of the holiness of all her members, any more than the wetness of rain is not measured by the wetness of all those have ventured out in it. If the whole population goes out and gets drenched, the rain is no wetter; if everyone stays indoors, the rain is no less wet. Rain is wet because it is rain, whether or not men expose themselves to it. The church is holy because it is Christ living on in the world. It is the cause of the holiness of its members, but is not measured by their response.

TRANSFORMARE
They are progressive stages that recall the 4 weeks journey of spiritual exercises, where the first corresponds to the so called purgative way (deformata refromare); The second to the one called illuminative way (reformata conformare); the third and the 4th weeks correspond to the unitive way (conformate confirmare, confirmata transformare). In these stages the word “form”, with the different meanings indicated by the different prefixes, has the significance of allowing oneself to be formed by God, as with the beginning he did with Adam. The spiritual exercices, in fact are precisely this disposing the soul to rid itself of all the disordered tendencies, and after it is rid, to seek and find the Divine will as to the management of one’s life for the salvation of the soul. (sp. Ex. pg-12).

Man’s true happiness consists in the vision of God. But the vision of God is a goal beyond the natural power of any creature. No human mind is naturally capable of seeing God. Man cannot see God by his own natural power. If man is to see God, he must be raised to a level of existence and action that is superhuman, that is divine. This is precisely what God has done for man. through the gift of grace God gives to man the power to see God. Through grace God makes it possible for human acts to lead to the vision of himself.

Christ beholds the programme of immolation that God demands of him in order to work out the world’s salvation. What a solemn moment for the soul of Jesus! What a moment two for human grace.
